Blackout Shutters

Blackout Shutters combine the elegance of shutters with the functional benefits of blinds. Sitting behind the shutters there is an integrated internal blind within the frame. The blinds can be operated independently of the shutters, giving you full versatility. Compatible with Full Height and Tier on Tier shutters styles, these are ideal for rooms where maximum light reduction is required such as nursery or bedrooms. Due to this additional layering to the window, Blackout Shutters also provide extra thermal benefits keeping your rooms warmer in colder months.

Shutter Mechanism Options

Clear View

Clear View is when the mechanism is along the back of the shutter on one side, which connects the louvres, however due to it’s size it has minimal impact on obstructing the view. To move the louvres, you simple move one of the louvres which will more the rest. Out of the three options, this is the most budget friendly option and is the only option possible for water resistant shutters (uPVC) .

Hidden Tilt

Hidden Tilt is where the mechanism that tilts the louvres (slats) up and down is built within the panel door of the shutter, which gives a cleaner finish and therefore unlike Clear View or Centre Rod it ensures none of the view is obstructed. To change the tilt position of the lourves you simple move one of the louvres which will most the rest.

Centre / Off Centre Rod

Centre/ Off Centre Rod is the original traditional look where a rod is affixed to the shutter louvres (slats) which you use to move the tilt position of the louvres up and down. Whilst this makes moving the louvres easy it will obstruct the view the most compared to the other two options.

Blackout Shutters FAQ

Are Blackout Shutters good for keeping the heat in?
With Blackout Shutters you get two additional layers to the window, providing even better thermal properties than other window dressing options.
Blackout Shutters can be installed in either Full Height or Tier on Tier style shutters.
We wouldn’t recommend using blackout shutters on doors, other styles such as Full Height or Solid Panel Shutters would be better.
We wouldn’t advise to use Blackout Shutters for high moisture rooms. Other styles such as Full Height, Tier on Tier or Cafe Style would be better in water resistant shutters.
